cheesemaker Needed! 

The Sequatchie Cove Creamery (SCC) Cheesemaking Assistant aids in the process of cheesemaking, affinage (cheese aging), cleaning, and record keeping under the direction of the Cheesemaking Lead.

Position Summary 

  • Full-time, hourly position (35-50 hours per week)  

  • The work schedule is irregular with some variation. Shifts that begin at 5am and shifts that end at 6pm should be expected (although not on the same day)

  • No experience necessary

  • $16-$18 per hour starting

  • Reports to the Cheesemaking Lead

Performance Expectations

*Essential Functions

  • Assists ​in​ ​the​ ​production​ ​of​ ​all SCC​ ​cheeses.

  • Assists in the affinage (aging) process.

  • Keeps accurate and updated records.

  • Follows GMP and SSOP guidelines set by SCC.

  • Participates in multidisciplinary HAACP/food safety team.

  • Receives a 3rd party food safety training certificate at the direction of SCC within 6 months of start date.

*Non-Essential Functions

  • Participates in gainshare initiatives, works to help the team achieve goals.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to safely lift up to 50lbs.

  • Must be able to work in cold/damp as well as hot/humid conditions.

  • Bending, stooping, walking, and standing for long periods of time.

  • Repetitive lifting and general handling of cheese.

  • Must be able to work with/around common allergens such as dairy products, fig leaves, and whiskey.
